Why did she stay? How come he didn't see it coming? Why don't they leave their abuser? In part 1, I'm sharing how it starts with trapping the victim in a life commitment or contract. Having a child, marriage, buying a home, renting an apartment, getting engaged, all these commitments make the abuser feel safe. They let their guard down and start to slowly chip away at your self-esteem, your sense of happiness, security, and they begin to control your life. What you do, who you see, how you spend your time, where you can go, who you talk to and communicate with, what you buy, they attempt to isolate you and control all aspects of your life.
